Born in Leningrad (St. Petersburg), Mikhail Yanovitsky began his piano studies with his mother. He studied with Marina Wolf at the Leningrad Special Music School for gifted children, and at the age of eighteen he entered the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied with Eugene Moguilevsky and Mikhail Voskressensky.
He won Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 1991 shortly after arriving in the United States. He has since given recitals in 30 of the 50 states, and also gave an acclaimed recital in Puerto Rico. He is the winner of many awards and prizes: the First Prize of the 1998 Piano Concerto Competition in Cantu, Italy, leading to a recital in Milano-s Salle Verdi, the 1994 Pro Piano Competition, First Prize in the 1992 Miriam Klausner Competition at Hampton Summerfest in New York, the 1991 Bruce Hungerford Memorial Prize. He also won two coveted Gina Bachauer Piano Scholarships for graduate studies at the Juilliard School, where he worked with Seymour Lipkin. He is currently pursuing a Doctoral degree at Temple University with Harvey Wedeen. In August 1998, Mr. Yanovitsky accepted the position of Artist Piano Teacher at Columbus State University in Georgia.
His stunning debut in 1991, and his Kennedy Center debut, which also won him critical acclaim, was presented under the auspices of Young Concert Artists. As recipient of 1993 Aaron and Irene Diamond Soloist Prize of Young Concert Artists, Mr. Yanovitsky performed with the New York Chamber Symphony, conducted by Gerard Schwarz, at New York-s 92nd Street Y.

He was invited as a soloist with the Pusan Philharmonic in Korea, Cape Town Symphony, the Toho Gakuen Orchestra under conductor Leon Fleisher at Casals Hall in Tokyo, and the Montevideo Symphony conducted by Roberto Montenegro.
