Nato a Salerno nel 1979, Michelangelo Carbonara deve la sua formazione pianistica alle personalità di Sergio Perticaroli, William Grant Naboré e Fou Ts'ong. Intrapresi gli studi musicali a cinque anni, a sei inizia a esibirsi in pubblico e a comporre musica. A diciassette si diploma presso il Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Roma, ottenendo tre anni più tardi la borsa di studio quale miglior diplomato dell'anno presso l'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. Si è inoltre perfezionato presso il Mozarteum di Salisburgo, l'Academie Musicale di Villecroze e l'International Piano Foundation "Theo Lieven" and Academy presieduta da Martha Argerich. Vincitore di 17 premi in concorsi internazionali, nel dicembre 2005 è stato scelto quale testimonial della musica italiana al Premio Nazionale delle Arti indetto dal Ministero della Pubblica Istruzione. La sua attività solistica è intensa in Europa, America, Asia, Africa. In Italia è stato invitato da: Sala Verdi, Auditorium (Milano), Lingotto (Torino), Parco della Musica, Accademia Filarmonica Romana, Quirinale, IUC (Roma), e dai festival internazionali di Ravello, Maratea, "Lezioni di Piano" (Bologna), "Pianomaster" (Gravedona), "Master Series". Nella stagione 2005-2006 è stato scelto dal prestigioso Keyboard Trust di Londra per dare una lunga serie di concerti in Europa e Stati Uniti. Specialista di Schubert, Scarlatti, Weber, Brahms, Schumann, per l'anno mozartiano 2006 ha preparato l'integrale dei concerti per pianoforte e orchestra di Mozart. Nell'ambito di questo progetto, ha debuttato con la prestigiosa Orchestra Sinfonica "Verdi" nella doppia veste di solista e direttore in due concerti mozartiani a Milano e Lecco. Sempre nell'anno mozartiano ha esordito anche come direttore d'orchestra, dirigendo sinfonie del compositore salisburghese. Ha inciso per Papageno e Tactus.
Michelangelo Carbonara was born in 1979 in Salerno (Italy), he owes his piano formation to Sergio Perticaroli, William Grant Naboré and Fou Ts'ong. He started musical studies when he was five. At six he began composing music and giving concerts. At seventeen, he graduated with top grades from the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome. In 1999 he achieved his Piano Specialization Degree with top grades at the Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome, earning the Grant for the Best Graduate of the Year. Michelangelo furthered his studies at the Salzburg Mozarteum in Austria and the Academie Musicale de Villecroze. In 2001 he was admitted to the famous International Piano Foundation "Theo Lieven" and the International Piano Academy Lake-Como headed by the legendary Martha Argerich. He has won numerous International Piano Competitions (17 prizes until now). At eighteen he made his international debut with orchestra in Austria, where he played the Third and the First Beethoven Concertos in the same programme. In 2003 he debuted in China, also giving a master class at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. In april-may 2005 he debuted in the USA. Now he regularly plays in many countries of Europe, America, Asia and Africa. In Italy he has played, as soloist and with orchestra, in the most important halls and festivals, such as: Sala Verdi, Auditorium (Milano), Lingotto (Torino), Parco della Musica - Sala Santa Cecilia, IUC, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Accademia Filarmonica, Teatro Ghione, (Roma), Festival Internazionale di Maratea, Festival Internazionale di Ravello, Festival "Lezioni di Piano" (Bologna), Festival Internazionale "Pianomaster" (Gravedona). His repertory is extremely broad and covers the entire Schubert Sonatas and almost all the piano works by Schubert, Weber, Brahms, Schumann, a lot of Beethoven's, Clementi's, Mozart's Haydn's Sonatas and dozens of Scarlatti's. Particular attention is also given to Polish composers (amongst which Chopin, Szymanowski, Lutoslawski, Paderewski). In 2006 he will play Mozart's Complete Piano Concertos all over the world. About this project, he debuted as conductor and soloist with Orchestra Sinfonica "Verdi" giving two Mozartian concerts in Milano and Lecco. In the Mozartian Year he debuted also a conductor, playing Mozart's Symphonies. In december 2005 he has been chosen as Testimonial of Italian Music for the Arts National Prize by the Ministry of the Instruction. The prestigious Keyboard Trust, headed by Noretta Conci Leech, chose him for a tournée during 2005-2006. He recorded for Papageno and Tactus labels. Other activities include composition and conducting.
